New Server Joy!

So, almost two weeks ago I get an IM. “Dude, your server is down.” I figure the power has gone out, like before and I will simply push the “on” button once I get home. After a full day at work I wander home and into the office. The server is on, but blinking an unhealthy green. *blink* *blink* *blink*. Humm, thats not good. Tried to turn it on, booted sweetly for about 8 seconds, only for the hd to stop whirling gently, the screen to go black and the green link to blink again. *blink* *blink* *blink*.

So this computer is my old pc, its about 6-7 years old … its time. Besides then I could just have a fresh install and not have to worry about upgrading! John looks online, finds a cheap you-build-it machine and I order it. During this time I get emails (dude, your server is down) Yes I am aware of the fact, thank you. While waiting for my shipment, I mention this predictament to a coworker. He says “Hey you want my old machine” and hands me the cutest little square box EVER. Its too late to cancel the shipment so I combine the two, more memory, upgrade the cdr to cdrw and a fresh and shinny hd. Another coworker helped me install the hardware and test that puppy. 4 days later it is in my office, fresh install and nekkid to the world. And pretty quiet! I had the old server rsysnc the data to a friends server down in Sunnyvale. Installed the applications, even Kwikiwiki which I thought was going to be a PITA was easy-peasy! Then added most of the data. This gave me a chance to clean up the data and get rid of the stuff no longer needed. (Miss a chance to clean, hell no) Restored the database, got savagebeatdown back up. Just need to grab a few more things and I am DONE baby DONE.
