Its past midnight Saturday morn, the dishwasher is running right now. The last load and the kitchen will finally be clean. 5 loads later. Yes, Thanksgiving was at my house. John’s family and mine met for the first time. And I made a Turkey. It was my first attempt at turkey making. I asked several people for advice, consulted the all powerful internet and crossed the fingers. It turned out pretty damn good. I decided to brine it, no one in my family had heard of such a thing. John arrived Wednesday and wondered why the large bag was on the floor, he seems confused when I said that was the turkey sitting in a bag of salt water, veggie stock and other things I threw together. Well brined it for a day then we woke up early thursday, removed the brine, removed this gross bag inside the turkey, “discussed” what side was up and down, oiled down the turkey and popped it in over to broil at 500 for 30 minutes. This of course was smokey and the alarms went off. 1/2 hour later, dialed it down to 350 and let it cook for 4 hours. It was very juicy. I think all the turkeys will be brined for now on, its the only way.

While it cooked, I made stuffing using sisters-grandmothers recipie. That too was good. I forced myself to make mashed potatoes. The kitchen was chaos but I think everyone enjoyed the food.
After everyone left we tackled the kitchen for the first run through. Then saw Tenacious D, a silly but damn funny movie. Returned home, cleaned more kitchen. (Used every pan/plate/glass) I owned. It was a good day.

It looks like MY kitchen has been volunteered for Christmas. Not sure if I want to make turkey, but if I do it will be brined.
Since she didn’t list my opinion on the turkey in her write up I’ll put it here. I can’t say it’s the best turkey I’ve ever had, because there may have been something when I was 5 years old that was better. But by god it was the best damn turkey I can remember!!! My baby hit it out of the park the first time up at bat. xoxoxoxo
