This weekend was spent interviewing Caterers. I really didn’t know what to expect, so I goggled for “Questions to Ask your Caterer” combined/edited a few and was ready to go. Arrived promptly at 2 in Petaluma to discover a closed shop. Hummm. I called, she answered and came to get us. The cafe is going thru some changes, the caterer has nothing to do with but she used that as her front door. So instead we went thru a back alley and down into a cellar. I kinda liked it.
Caterer 1 was warm and friendly. The food was great and a lot of it. She didn’t seem turned off or
stunned by our “eccentric” sense of humour. Good crab cakes and meat on a stick. She had a more polished name for it but we liked the MOAS name. Her greatest strength (well to us) was her friendliness and apparent sense of flexibility. She liked the RKT cake idea and had some suggestions. and I don’t think she picked up and John and I were newbies and had NO IDEA what we were doing.
Caterer #2 We met Sunday morning. There was a slight snafu in finding them. (None of them really gave us the best directions) This is a husband wife team. They were a bit more professional and didn’t quite get our sense of humour but the food was fantastic. Crab Cakes, tri tip and chicken that melted on the fork. They also had the best code and standards compliant website. I realize that should have no basis on who we select as the caterer but it gave them points. The husband’s sense of humour is not as warm as the wife, but he takes his job seriously. They also include in their quote the price of linens.
Caterer 3 we met at her home. The business is family run and they seemed nice. But they didn’t offer any tastings. (I had tried her food at the bridal show and it was very yummy. In fact I only kept a few brochures from that bridal show and hers was one, which shows how much I liked it) She kept offering herself as a wedding co-coordinators, which was a tad bit annoying but then when I looked back at my notes, they all offered some one or person to do something extra.
Anyway they all will submit contracts in the next week or so, then John and I will have to decide. I am guessing the prices will pretty much be the same. But the food will be worth it!
