Yesterday Julie, Babs and I went to the Home and Garden Show at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds. Although we are interested in homes and gardens, the main reason is to check out Somerset Auctions, California’s Most Popular Auction, an auction house we have been going to off and on for more than 7 years. Sometimes we buy things but mostly we go because its amusing, the auctioneer will often be quite funny when he is lying describing the item in question.
Some of the things are pretty, some okay and a few things downright ugly. We often have a contest who can find the ugliest thing and then best how much it will go for. At one point a large copper water fountain of 4 mermaids, a merboy and jetting water came up and all thee of us cracked up. I think it went for over 1500. The little items go for a lot of money but the big items (furniture) are sometimes very attractive and they get a really good price, and their delivery charge is reasonable. Its just fun to mock them.
I wrote down a few nugget of wisdom:
- We are Gemology Graduates
- Your first instinct is your best
- its YOUR auction
- (item) is considered artwork outside this room (outside the room its Home Shopping Network)
- Terra Cotta has been around 5-600 years
- Just like Yadro
- folks this is …
- The next Tiffany ..
- Best of the the best
- Crime being committed (the low price being bid for the item)
- Lookie Lookie here cookoie
- This rug could be on FIRE and it would be a good deal
Before the auction we wandered around and all three of us fell in love with a mop, but not an ordinary mop, nay it was SUPER MOP.

Yea, and guess who got the aforementioned “super mop” as a prezzie. What do you call someone with a fetish for cleaning?
