I’m currently exploring the mystifying world of web 2.0 with my coworkers. It’s always interesting to see what others have discovered and learning something new! One of the assignments was to publish your first post with an introduction of yourself and what you hope to gain from this workshop.Well, I have had this blog up for a several years and it is chocked full of me so got that one covered. What I hope to gain from this workshop is being exposed to new and wonderful apps that make my life easier, learn fabulous web technologies and most important see what other people are doing. Why they use certain web 2.0 technologies, what makes that app so appealing to them. We all have different personalities, likes/dislikes and I enjoy seeing other points of views.
RSS
I use Google Reader. But sometimes I just like going to the particular web page and reading from the source, browsing if you will. Also a few feeds, especially all the comics I read. are often just a short description, doesn’t include images and I have to go to the web page anyway. Kinda annoying.
Wiki
I love wikipedia. I use it a lot when John and I are talking or watching tv and one will say “Whatever happened to (insert name of long forgotten actor)”. Two seconds later, out pops the laptop and we have our answer. I use a wiki for one of my role playing games. We have been playing this game for over 8 years and the vast amount of data accumulated is just amazing. A few years ago, one friend popped in a wiki and we just started brain-dumping all the information. Patterns in the game we had never noticed because pretty darn clear as well as a logical timeline. It has improved the game and lessened the “who did that?” arguments.
