Saturday was a fun fill rainy day of moving enjoyment! The plan was to arrive at Sacramento at one to start the ‘moving process”, after working out the car pool issues, John and I arrived at 1:20 ready and able to move. Joe had not prepared the move as much as he could have, ie there was no boxes, computer and tv was still hooked up and the poor kitty had no cat carrier. Nothing was packed in the kitchen, in fact, if one were to walk in the place it would be difficult to image a person was in fact moving that day. Not really a problem, since Joe left almost everything in the apartment. All part of the “Start Fresh” program. As you can see from the photo, Jim and Julie were very excited about the move.
People started moving all the treasured items. I unplugged/dismantled the computer and tv, bagging up all the wires. Soon everything was in the van. After a surprisingly quick lunch, we were off to Roseville. The apartment is very nice and I think he will be happy there.
After moving, Joe, Jim and John went back to Sacramento to return the moving van and pick up the cat. Julie, Emily Adam and I went to Target to outfit his new life. It took 4 carts but we got:
Dishes, silverware, linen, bath towels and mat ( a really nice mat, John and I went to Target the next day and bought one for our bathroom), dish towels, can opener, vacuum cleaner, various cleaning supplies, broom, mop, duvet cover, a nice lamp, a single pan (man’s gotta pick out his own pans), a futon cover and two pillows. I am sure there were more things but I can’t remember right now. He lives 10 minutes from an Ikea, get a tv stand and a table for his fish tank and he is set for a swanky bachelor pad!
It was a long day and the headache fairy paid a visit. Everyone else went out for dinner. I lay on the clean bed, in the dark, listening to the sounds of his cat freaking out and hiding under the bed.

Ah yes, I remember the delightful activity of moving Andy from the house on Gavin to the house on Barrett. when Mendonca and I showed up at 9am, he’d done no packing. Literally none. I took the kitchen, Chris the living room, and Andy got to do the bedroom. we finished the whole house, then realized we’d forgotten about the garage.
Eventually other people showed up to help carry stuff into and out of the houses. but Andy owed me for *years* for that one..
So what I’m hearing is “If you don’t box stuff up when you move, your friends do it for you.” SWEET!!!
Ah god! The pain… the horror. The accidental leaving of the warm clothes in the car so I had to literally run while carting crap around in order to stay warm. The living on the second floor, resulting in the running up and the running down. The wind. The rain. Yes, we were paid in Ethiopian food, but I feel the need for additional payment… perhaps of the XP variety….
Ok, it wasn’t so bad and Joe’s new pad is fabulous!
