One tradition Julie, babs and I have developed is going to the Somerset Auctions. Once housed on its own, it now is bundled up with the Home and Garden Show at the Fairgrounds. Our 2007 Adventure and the 2005 are written up, but we have been going since 1999.
This year did not favour the poor vendors at the show. The auction had less than 1/4 the usual crowd but 4X the “quality items.” It started heavy hailing during the afternoon and many people went home. The poor workers have to run outside and pull items from the thunderous hail. We just stood outside and embraced the hail, it was pretty cool. Usually there is 1 or 2 things I like and make an offer on, but this year nothing really made me want to stay. The poor auctioneer was at his wits end and it looked like the stuff was selling pretty darn cheap. Just who needs yet another large copper pot? We spent most of our time in the Hall Of Crap. This is the same place weall bought THE SUPER MOP last year. It was again for sale this year, but now shadowed by some other inferior mop. We grew disillusioned and left the mop presentation.
