Another idea the Web 2.0 class is bringing up is LibraryThing. Library Things is a social cataloging web application for storing and sharing personal library catalogs and book lists. Users, known as thingamabrarians, can catalog personal collections, keep reading lists, and can connect to people based on the books they share. Browsing the ‘bookshelf’ by searching titles, authors, or tags generated by users as they enter books into their libraries. Pretty darn easy interface!
Sounds cool huh? Just think:
- Find people with freaky similar tastes.
- Catalog with Amazon, the Library of Congress or 252 other world libraries. Import from anywhere.
- Get recommendations. Tag your books and explore others’ tags.
- Put your books on your blog.
- Enter 200 books for free or as many as you like for a small fee
So now I am trying to remember the last few books I have bought. One I have on the desk right now about New Orleans tourist stuff, only 4 other people have tagged it and no reviews. But the other one, The Time Travelers Wife has over 10,000 peeps have tagged it with lots of suggestions or recommendations.

The Time Traveler’s Wife is great. At times sad and at times freaky, but overall I’d read it again.
Book nerd…I love her!

Granted, we are only using it to show off books that miche wants to give away but hasn’t given any away yet. But, I found that once I borrowed a bar code scanner from work, entering books was a cinch.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is being made into a movie. I hope they don’t mess it up!
gconnor – If you want to give away some books, I can take them off your hands and donate them to the library!
