John and I went on our delayed honeymoon last week to lovely New Orleans. It was fabulous! We started out our trip by getting up at the crack of dawn and making our way to beautiful Oakland Airport. When we told the airline rep it was our honeymoon, she upgraded us. A nice start to our vacation! 10 hours later we arrived. The first 2 days was spent in Covington, a small town about an hour away from New Orleans. You get there by driving this very long flat bring for almost an hour.
Covington where my extended family is located. We did the typical antiquing and driving around. We discovered then the mom and pop places are closed on easter Sunday and most of then are closed on the following Monday. So mostly we drove around. But every place we went the people were warm and friendly. This small town is growing very quickly due to Katrina. Many of the people who lost their homes in New Orleans moved further up north. We saw a lot of new developments and many condo’s that were not there when I visited two years ago. John and I then went to visit an aunt, Miss Katie. She used to be a teacher and has some fantastic stories to tell. She was the Mardi Gras queen one year and gave us lots of advice on what to check in NO. Her house is from the 1820′s and been in the family since then. We walked around a small bit of the property and got the see the remnants of when it had been a huge sheep farm. She also used to cook for all the hired help and gave me all her recipes. I already tried the jambalaya yesterday and looking forward to the rest. The next day we made our merry way towards New Orleans. Next 5 days were a whirlwind and my feet still hurt!

Points of interests.
- John learned if some guy on the street starts talking to you, he wants you to buy something. Just keep walking. Although Mariachi bands are one of my biggest fears, old guy following you with a saxophone and singing comes a close second.
- Coffee and beignets are yummy no matter what the time.
- A place called “The Waffle House” is exactly what you think it is…
- Hurricanes are very potent but its easier to walk around once they close off the street and you can lean on each other.
- Zydeco players are very friendly.
- Preservation Hall is Tiny but large with “cool”.
- No matter how
drunktipsey you are karaoke still sounds bad. - Dinner places that were recommended – not so good. Places we stumbled upon, darn good.
- With one glaring exception, the people were all pleasant, nice and happy to see you.
- Even though it is not Mardi Gras, men still want to hand out beads.
- There is always time for one more tour!

…AND one more Hurricane!!!
Or a Hand Grenade, which is even yummier (and more potent).
I walked more and drank more last week than I have in a long time. Nice to know that I can still do that if necessary
Keep up the good work.
