John and I decided to check out the Great Handcar Regatta on Sunday. Although it was over 103, we biked over. Yes it was hot, but the valet bike parking and car parking mess made it totally worthwhile. The local diners got into the mood and were also dressed accordingly. Plus we got to see Oompa-Loompa, how cool is that!
The Handcar Regatta represents a FREE public celebration of Mechanical, Visual, Culinary, and Costumed Performing Arts combined with an inclusive concept of Community Participation andHuman Ingenuity embracing sustainability, alternative transportation, and good old fashioned fun.
People were in very good spirits and a good time was had by all. We watched a few races, marveled at the creativity and got a little scared at the duct taped “Tattoo” signs. Great costumes, food and entertainment!

It was lots of fun! And yes, it was hot. That first picture you see is essentially a hamster wheel attached to a belt that turns the wheels. One of the most ingenious designs I saw there. But the Wonkatania was by far the most elegant, and the soundtrack was perfect.
There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
I’m really bummed I didn’t get out there Sunday. Last year was a blast. Do you have more pictures up anywhere? ‘Cuz I’d love to see them
I only have a few, but check out the pressdemo photo’s, they are lovely!
